About Us

The “story” behind M.M.M.

In 1997, God directed Joe and Elsa Willis in the establishment of Maranatha Medical Ministries (M.M.M). Not long after they began their ministry, Hurricanes George and Mitch devastated several Caribbean countries.

The Willis’s chose to focus their attentions on Honduras, one of the poorest countries in Central America.

Immediately the appeal went out for help, and within just a couple of weeks, tons of food, water, clothes and medical supplies had been donated by individuals, church organizations, and large companies such as Wal-Mart, Chiquita Banana Company, and Coca Cola Bottling Company. White Fleet Shipping Company provided transportation of the supplies… All free of charge.

And here is why they continue to help people…

M.M.M. and a thirteen member team flew to Honduras and began their work. From early morning to late evening, the M.M.M. team attended to the needs of the “poorest of the poor”.

The work continued for several weeks. Returning to the U.S.A., Joe and Elsa realized they could not return to the life of ease and comfort while thousands in Honduras were suffering under the bondage of poverty.

After much prayer, they decided to return to Honduras and establish a missionary outpost in the mountains of Santa Barbara, where they could live among the poor and do the work they’ve dedicated their lives to — medical missionary work.

Their current projects…

Today, Maranatha Medical Ministries has a modest health clinic, a beautiful House of Prayer, a multi-grade church school (Maranatha Institute of Christian Education), a unique vegetarian restaurant and bakery (La Canasta de Vida Restaurant & Bakery) in the town of Santa Barbara. We also have an organic vegetable industry that provides work for families in the village.

The ministry is constantly expanding to other villages to serve the poor, the sick, and the needy while sharing the good news of the gospel.

In choosing men and women for His service, God does not ask whether they possess worldly wealth, learning, or eloquence. He asks, “Do they walk in such humility that I can teach them My way? Can I put My word into their lips? Will they represent Me?”

nigh to Him, and He will draw nigh to you.

    Hello M.M.M,
We heard about you through a friend and are interested in learning more about the ministry. My husband Emir and I are currently missionaries in Roatan, working as teachers in an Adventist school. However, since we are not actual teachers, we have found (after 2 years) that teaching in a school is not our area of strength. My husband enjoys working in evangelism and I enjoy working with hydro therapy/massage and music. We would be grateful if you could give us more information about the ministry and maybe a phone call to be able to speak more in detail about everything and the future possibilities. Thank-you and blessings…!

    Dear Sister Elsa,
I really enjoyed your last newsletter, and pray for you esp. as you carry extra responsibilities right now. God will provide those who can help with the teaching and other aspects of the program in His time. Keep up your courage and know that we love you.
My husband, Alan, is learning the trucking industry right now. He has daily challenges, but also blessings in being able to share with people along the way, and at the company headquarters, about a better way of life. Eternity will show the end results, and we realize this work is not just to pay our bills. He has had many opportunities to share books and counsel people in health lines. I do the same from home, and God is blessing. One lady that I work with has stopped using powerful narcotics that the doctors put her on over 30 yrs ago, and she has changed from a meat and sugar diet, to drinking water and eating mostly vegan now. She’s 75, but is making progress in many areas with God’s help. There are others too, but I won’t take more time right now.
Do you have an email where I can write directly to you? I prefer that when possible. Thank you.
We love you and will continue to pray for God’s care and provision for your needs. Lorraine and Alan Humes
